Jazz at the Vine 2023

Jazz at the Vine is a concert series presented by Humboldt Park Friends in collaboration with Milwaukee County Parks and Gary Hollander.  This concert series is held at the beautiful Humboldt Park’s beer garden and is designed to engage the community, bring people together, and raise funds to support the park system. With your help, we can continue to host this exciting and vibrant event that showcases the best local jazz musicians while also supporting a vital community resource.

Andrew Spadafora’s Fountain of Youth

Andrew Spadafora is a dynamic Milwaukee saxophonist performing for diverse audiences throughout numerous genres of music. Known mostly as a touring sideman with acts such as Tweed Funk, the Sweet Sheiks, and The Dead Man’s Carnival, Andrew has a career that has spanned the Jazz and Blues circuits of both Europe and the United States. Now fronting his own band, “The Fountain of Youth” features immense musical talents of many up-and-coming musicians. Focused on modern interpretations of American Jazz music, this electric young band is sure to make you move your feet and lose your seat as the pulsing rhythms of Hard Bop and Soul Jazz liven any room.

Sam Steffke Trio

Sam Steffke has worked with a veritable who’s who of the Milwaukee music scene. He’s a three-time winner of Keyboard Instrumentalist of the Year by the WI Area Music Industry Awards (WAMI), and spent six years holding down the keyboard chair in Streetlife (house band of the Milw Bucks).

In addition, Sam keeps a busy schedule of freelance work with many local bands and outstanding area vocalists as well as recording and teaching.

CNJ Latin Jazz

Founded in 2012, this all-star lineup of musicians brings to life their unique approach to many traditional Latin jazz classics, American jazz standards, and contemporary music. Combined with a heavy dose of afro-latino rhythms, cnj’s unique interpretations of Latin jazz music inspire and engages listeners, move the dancers to dance, and aim to strengthen the Milwaukee music scene by keeping alive the rich traditions of Latin music in Milwaukee.

John Christensen Quartet

John Christensen began his bass studies with Chris Wood in high school. After brief stints at Berklee College and North Texas, John moved to San Francisco and played in the burgeoning music scene during the late 90s. Since Moving to Wisconsin in 1999, John has become a highly sought-after side musician, playing with numerous regional and international artists and bands. He leads his own groups and is also a co-founder of Lesser Lakes Trio with longtime collaborators Devin Drobka and Jamie Breiwick as well as KASE, an improvised hip-hop trio with Jamie and Turntablist Jordan Lee.

Milwaukee Jazz Institute Night – Youth Combos

We are excited to highlight and support the young talent coming up the pipeline. We are working with the Milwaukee Jazz Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, that promotes jazz through education and performance, building awareness of this art form’s ability to transform lives and strengthen our community. Several youth combos will perform for our audience.
